Romans 1-11

 

General Outline:

I.    Salvation of the heart.

A.  Sin becomes righteousness.

B.   Death becomes life.

C.  Law becomes grace.

II.   Salvation of the life.

A.  Sin becomes righteousness.

B.   Death becomes life.

C.  Law becomes grace.

III. Salvation of the body.

A.  Sin becomes righteousness.

B.   Death becomes life.

C.  Law becomes grace.

 

The condition of the lost.

1.   Dead in sin.

a.   spiritual death - eternal hell

b.   physical death awaits - body decayed

2.   No righteousness.

a.   In spirit because the spirit is dead in trespasses and sins.

b.   In body because it is under the condemnation of death.

c.   in mind and heart because it cannot understand spiritual things - opposed to spiritual values.

3.   Life is completely empty.

a.   The lost sinner doesn't know that his life is completely empty.

b.   They think they gain much satisfaction in this world.

c.   For example:

1.      Lost people believe they are able to love one another, but they don't understand their love is based upon what the other person does for them.

2.      True love (the kind of love God has for us) is not based on what we can do for Him, but has its basis within God.

3.   God loves sinners before they love Him, or even know anything at all about Him.

a.   No knowledge of God and an active turning away from Him.

b.   No satisfaction in things of flesh for pleasure swiftly decreases.

1.   In new things.

2.   In new relationships (marriages - the thrill decreases).

3.      Leaves the sinner constantly looking for new sources of pleasures.

 

I.    Salvation of the Heart.

A.  Sin becomes righteousness.  The believer has peace with God, Rom. 5:1.

B.   Death becomes life.

1.   The spirit will live.

2.   The body is still under the condemnation of death.

C.   Law becomes grace.  The requirements of the law is satisfied by Christ.

 

II.   Salvation of the Life.

A.  Sin becomes righteousness.

1.   The believer soon discovers that the power of God that brought salvation does not mean there is a freedom from the struggle against sin.  Compare Rom. 1:16 & 6:1

2.   The center of the Christian life is an intense struggle with the power of sin in one's life. Rom. 7:18-25.

3.   He now considers his walk (his life) before God.

4.      Satan continues his assault on the body and mind.

5.   The believer is apt to sin although he hates the sin and its results in his body and mind.

6.   Sin must be replaced by righteousness, HIS not his.

7.      Faith comes into action.

a.   Faith is believing what God said.  Heb. 11:1.

b.   God forgives initial (original) sin at time of salvation.

c.   God forgives sin in our daily lives.  I John 1:8-10.

d.   By faith we can live like God wants us to.

e.   By faith we can trust the promises of God so we will take on the likeness of Christ.  II Peter 1:4.

B.   Death becomes life.

1.   We must die to self in order to life unto God.

C.   Law becomes grace.

1.   The law is both good and right.

2.   We don't want to be lawless.

3.      Breaking the law is sin.  I John 3:4.

4.   The law is spiritual, but I am carnal, sold under sin.  Rom. 7:14.

5.   The law is not supposed to be fulfilled in the body!  Gal. 2:16,  Gal. 3:19-22.

6.   It is by the grace of God that we live in the spirit of God while on this earth, thus not sinning, but obtaining the righteousness of Christ, which is by the faith given to us by God.

a.   Men see our good works and give glory to God.  Matt. 5:16.

b.   We become "perfect" (complete, not sinless) in our actions.  Matt. 5:48.

 

III. Salvation of the Body.

A.  Sin becomes righteousness.

1.   The final outcome of the "victory" of sin is the death of the body.  I Cor. 15:51-58.

2.   The final outcome of the resurrection of the body is eternal life in a glorified body.

B.   Death becomes life.

1.   At death, we lose consciousness with this sinful, wicked world, and come into consciousness with the realm of the eternal.

2.   The saved person doesn't lose at death, he rather gains.

C.   Law becomes grace.

1.   The law no longer has dominion over us.

2.   We no longer look through a glass darkly, but see clearly when we see Him face to face.  I Cor. 13:12.

3.   We will spend eternity learning how gracious God was to us.  Eph. 2:7.
