Is The End Of The World Upon Us?


Political situation has caused many to realize spiritual truths.

Text: I Cor. 10:11 - Upon whom the ends of the world are come.

1. This is speaking about an "age".

2. Eph. 6:12 - Beware of spiritual wickedness in high places.

a. High places = heavenly places.

b. Satan taking over heaven.

3. I John 2:18 - the "last days" is the church age and was going on during John's life.

4. Acts 2:17 - last days - The Spirit shall be poured out, as on the Day of Pentecost.

5. Matt. 24:34 - The generations alive when Israel is made a nation.


I. Luke 17:26-30 - Condition of the lost.

A. Jude 1:18 - Mockers in the last time.

B. Days of Noah - Gen. 6

1. Drug culture - also in sports.

2. Illicit sex, adultery, divorce.

3. rock and roll music from Elvis Presley

4. Interfaith marriage - falling in "love".

5. Thinking of evil continually.

6. Not looking for the judgment of God.

C. Days of Lot - Gen. 19. This passage is not speaking to heterosexuals like the homosexuals thought.

1. Much the same as in Noah's day.

2. Homosexuals reign supreme - like today. (The law didn't stop their assault on Lot's house. This is coming on us.) AIDS - The acceptance of it - Romans 1:27.

3. Note the decreased influence of Christianity in Lot. His daughters marrying in that wicked city - his wife being in love with it.

4. Rapture - Lot taken out on the same day Sodom is destroyed.

D. II Tim. 3:1-9 - Condition of all men in the last days.


II. Condition of saved people - Compare to Lot.

A. I Thess. 5:1-8 - Let us not sleep.

1. Many churches today are more interested in other things than in worshipping God.

a. Their programs to reach people instead of glorifying God who will then reach people.

b. Their not offending anybody about anything.

c. Their supplying for needs of members instead of letting those members supply glory and honor for God.

2. We often think of a religion sleeping when they are inactive.

a. Some churches are very active, but are still sleeping.

b. They don't realize how close we are to the end of time, therefore, they spend a lot of time trying to glorify themselves instead of watching for the return of the Lord.

3 Matt. 24:12 - When inquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.

B. I Tim. 4:1-3 - Some shall depart from the faith.

C. II Tim. 4:1-4 - Men not enduring sound doctrine.

D. Rev. 3:14-22 - The church of Laodicea (Means "Justice of the People", or "People's Rights".

1. Not listening to the God called pastor.

a. People read I Peter 5:3 and say the pastor shouldn't rule.

b. Heb. 13:17 is where they ought to read.

c. I Peter 5:3 is not written to the church, but to the pastor of the church.

d. Heb. 13:17 is written to the church members, this is what they ought to be doing.

e. In most cases, the deacons or board of deacons rule, or a group of self-appointed people.

2. Luke-warm.

3. No position on sin.

4. Layman's movements.

5. Christ on the outside. (Not knocking on sinners heart door!)

6. Increased with goods.

a. Great church buildings.

b. Educational institutions (II Tim. 3:7, ever learning, but never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.)

c. Publishing houses - for all kinds of papers.

d. Emphasis on numbers and financing.

e. Emphasis on conventions, associations, mission boards, not on the work of the local churches - winning souls and baptizing them, and teaching them the all things.


III. What are we to do?

A. Go back to our text: I Cor. 10:11-13 - Oddly enough, many today chose to disregard the "antiquated" teachings of the Old Testament.

1. Verse 13 - The problem and the solution.

2. "But" - temptations we face is common to man.

a. Satan has worked for 6,000 years to bring in his kingdom.

b. He will work until he gets it done.

3. But" - God will not let us fall.

a. Luke 22:31-34 - Peter to be sifted as wheat, but God would keep him.

b. Matt. 24:22 - days shortened for the elect's sake.

4. "But" - provide a way to escape.

a. Noah endured the flood, safe in the ark.

b. Lot escaped with his life an two daughters. The trial didn't stop. He is a bad example.

c. Daniel endured the lion's den, but God shut the lions mouth.

d. Three Hebrews escaped the fiery furnace, but had to be thrown in.

B. Joshua 24:15 - Joshua declared, "As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord."

C. Be careful, we might fall.

1. II Peter 3:17,18 - We can fall from our own stedfastness.

2. Let us grow in grace.

D. If you're lost, hell is not very far away from you.

1. Trust God's Son today.

2. He will save you.
