Proverbs 29:18

Where there is no vision,

the people perish

I. What is the vision? A supernatural look into the plans of God. It is not an earthly vision of anything earthly or for the promotion of anything or anybody. It is not the vision of the world full of lost people, the vision of a growing church, the vision of that church building a new, and large church building.

The word perish doesn't mean necessarily to die. It means to lack restraint, or to loosen, to avoid, or neglect, to let go. When these people don't look into the law of God, they begin to look at other things. Eventually, the judgment of God will come upon them as a natural result of disobeying God's commands. This is what happened to Israel, causing them to stop being a nation.

A. Is. 1:1 - This is the vision of Isaiah concerning future of Israel.

B. Obadiah 1:1 - This is the vision of Obadiah concerning Edom.

C. Daniel 8:1, 2, 13, 15, 26 - This is the vision Daniel about the ram and he goat which was concerning the future of the Medes and Persian kingdoms, and the Grecian kingdom, which would follow them.

D. Nahum 1:1 - This is the vision given to Nahum concerning Nineveh.

E. Habakkuk 2:2 - This is concerning the judgment God will soon bring upon Israel.

II. Do not listen to false visions.

A. Jer. 14:14 - False prophets told Israel they would continue to enjoy prosperity, and not be overcome by Babylon. Note their end.

B. Jer. 23:16 - The vision of the evil prophet comes from his own heart, not from God.

III. The result of listening to false prophets.

A. Micah 3:6 - There is coming a terrible day of spiritual darkness when God won't hear, nor answer, the cry of those people who wouldn't listen to His law.

IV. The right way.

A. Prov. 29:18 - Obey the law of God.
