Confusion

I Corinthians 14:33 –  For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.

I.   Christ is the Son of God:

A.     Satan is not in confusion – Compare Matthew 4:3,6 and Matthew 8:29 - Satan tries to get Christ to prove what he already knows.

1.       Isaiah 14:12-13 – It is very apparent that Satan knows who God is.

2.

The Devils know who Jesus is, but they find no comfort.

Matthew 4:3 - And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.

3.       Matthew 4:6 - And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.

4.       Matthew 8:29 - And, behold, they cried out, saying, What have we to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of God? art thou come hither to torment us before the time?

B.     Unbelievers are in confusion –

1.       Matthew 26:63 - The Pharisees know who Jesus Christ is, but they still want to crucify Him.  …And the high priest answered and said unto him, I adjure thee by the living God, that thou tell us whether thou be the Christ, the Son of God. 64 Jesus saith unto him, Thou hast said: nevertheless I say unto you, Hereafter shall ye see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.

a.       Note: the high priest asked if Jesus is the Son of God.

b.       Jesus stated, “thou knowest”, then spoke of the son of man.

2.       John 11:50 – Caiaphas, the high priest, prophesied that Jesus should die for that nation.

C.     Disciples Should Be Without Confusion – The disciples know He is the Son of God.

1.       Matthew 14:33 – Peter was walking on the water, but began to sick.  When the waters were calmed and Peter was safe on shore, the disciples worshipped Him, declaring Him to be the Son of God.

a.       Verse 31 – Jesus said Peter did not have faith.

b.       Verse 32 – The other disciples recognized Jesus Christ as the son of God.

2.       Matthew 27:54 - The Centurion knew the death of Christ was different from all other deaths he had witnessed, and declared that Jesus was indeed the Son of God.

3.       John 6:68-69 - Peter answered for all the disciples that Jesus was the Christ, the Son of God.

4.       John 14

a.       John 14:4-7 – Thomas did not know the way, even though he had been told many times.

b.       John 14:8-11 –Philip did not know Jesus was in the Father.

5.       Luke 24:45 – We must have our understanding opened by God.

6.       II Kings 6:17 – Elisha prayed that God open the eyes of his servant.

7.       James 1:5 – If any of us lack wisdom, let us ask of God.

D.     Christ will stop the confusion of the lost – The lost believe Jesus is the Son of God to the saving of their soul.

1.       II Corinthians 4:3 – If our gospel be hid, it is hid to those that are lost.

2.       Acts 8:37 - The eunuch believed Jesus is the Son of God, and Philip baptized him because he was saved.

3.       John 3:16-18 - The lost are to believe that Jesus is the only begotten Son of God and they will be saved.
