Chapter 6

Verse 1-2 – Any person that is under another’s authority should submit themselves and treat their masters with all honors so the name of God won’t be blasphemed. If a servant has a believing master, treat them with respect even though they are a fellow believer. Especially if they are a fellow believer. Do and teach others.

Verse 3-10 – People that teach other than this don’t understand the relationship between the spiritual and the material.

Verse 3-5 – The person who doesn’t understand the relationship between authority and submission will bring up a lot more questions. He will continue bringing up sick (doting) question that bring strife, and all sorts of others evils and never help anybody. This type of person is better left alone. You can’t fix them. They don’t want to be fixed.

Verse 6-10 – How to be content in your circumstances.

Verse 6-8 – We are not taking anything out of the world, so why aren’t we content with what we have. Why aren’t we content with what God has given us? We didn’t bring anything in the world, we won’t take anything out. Be content – now!

Verse 9-10 – Those that are rich are more likely to depend on their money than to trust in God. They get caught up in the things of this world, and forsake the service of God. Matthew 6:33 – If we follow this verse, we will be better off. Don’t trust your money – it will soon be gone! God isn’t going anywhere! Many evil things and way are avoided by trusting God instead of money or the means to get money.

Verse 11-16 – Admonitions to the man of God concerning his Godly life.

Verse 11-12 – Positive things to do in the service of God. This is the way to live. Don’t try to not follow the ways of the world, instead follow after righteousness and you will continually be in obedience to God and His Word.

Verse 13-16 – A charge for the man of God to be like Christ.

Verse 13-14 – The charge of the man of God, before Christ, who has been on this earth, and faced opposition in the form of Pontius Pilate (the ruler of the day). As Christ was a good witness before Pontius Pilate, the pastor should be a good witness before the only Potentate, Jesus Christ. This command is to be kept until the return of Jesus Christ. The commandments are all the Biblical commandments without blemish (spot). The commandments refer to all the commandments, not just to a few we choose. It is good for every believer to follow the commandments, but it is especially good for pastors to follow the commandments, because they are supposed to be an example of holiness and Godly living.

Verse 15-16 – The true work of the pastor is to show Christ, who is the only king. The pastor should always point people to Christ. Christ is immortal, who dwells on a plain we cannot see, or can ever see. We should honor Christ, who is the physical embodiment of the eternal God, above everything and everybody.

Verse 17-19 – Teach the rich to not trust in their riches, but to trust in God who gave them their riches, and can take away their riches. The ones who have riches should be willing to give them up if God so desires. Never to think their money makes them better than somebody else who doesn’t have money. This is the way to lay up treasures in heaven. Lay hold on eternal life: Doesn’t mean they are going to be saved because of what they have done. It means they are showing their trust in Christ by not trusting their money. Just like the rich young ruler who came to Christ, and Christ told him to sell everything he had. He wouldn’t sell it because he was trusting in it.

Verse 20-21 – Paul pleads for Timothy to follow in God’s will. God has entrusted Timothy with His Word, therefore be faithful to God in keeping the Word of God. By doing this, Timothy will avoid profane and vain babblings, and oppositions of science false so called. “Science falsely so called” is not really science, it is just called science. Like evolution is called science when it is really a religion of atheism. There are some who have erred concerning the faith, don’t be like them. Be like Christ. Salutation is “I’ll be praying for you.”
