Judgment and Sin

Romans 1:32 – Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.

Hebrews 9:27 - And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment

I know a message on the judgment of God isn’t what most people enjoy, but it is a message of the Bible. This message is a warning that every person will stand before God and give account for every thought, every word, every act, and every motive. Will you listen and heed the warning this morning?

The certainty of being judged by God.

Hebrews 9:27 - And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:

There are those who do not believe in God (they call themselves Atheists), but their non-belief will not allow them to escape the judgment of God.

It is so sure that every knee shall bow and every tongue confess that God put it in His Bible three times.

a. Isaiah 45:23 - I have sworn by myself, the word is gone out of my mouth in righteousness, and shall not return, That unto me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall swear.

b. Romans 14:11 - For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God.

c. Philippians 2:10,11 - That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; 11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

The lost know the judgment of God is coming, yet do nothing to prepare for that judgment.

Romans 1:32 - Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.

Rom 2:2-3 - But we are sure that the judgment of God is according to truth against them which commit such things. {3} And thinkest thou this, O man, that judgest them which do such things, and doest the same, that thou shalt escape the judgment of God?

Rom 2:5 - But after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasurest up unto thyself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God;

The judgment of God today is doctrine that most people don’t like to hear. For example, the other day I spoke to a young woman who had been married almost 6 years, with a daughter 4 years old. She is divorcing her husband because he was strangling her and the daughter walked in. She is in a terrible financial condition, not to mention the mental and emotional anguish. I tried to speak to her about sin and what it has caused in her life, but she wasn’t interested in hearing about that. She wasn’t interested in hearing that Christ is the answer to all her problems, physical, mental and spiritual. She didn’t want Christ; she wanted her husband to pay for the raising of the child. She wanted more money to make ends meet. She wanted another companion. She wasn’t interested in Christ, or what he could do for her. She wanted out of her present distress, but she didn’t want Christ. She wasn’t interested in her eternal soul, or where she was going to spend eternity. She wasn’t sure there was an eternity, or a God that could forgive sins. She wasn’t sure there was such a thing as sin.

I have spoken to many people who are not trouble at all by the judgment to come. They have no idea of the righteousness of God and their own sinful condition. They have no idea how large the chasm is between them and a holy, righteous God. They think there is a small crack in the ground that separates them from God Almighty; they don’t understand there is a chasm so wide, no man can ever pass over.

How and for what will we all be judged? According to our works during our lifetime.

Matthew 12:36 - But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.

John 5:22 - For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son:

When the gospel message is preached, which gospel message always includes the coming judgment of God sinners should tremble as did Felix when Paul presented the three points of righteousness, temperance and judgment to come.

Acts 24:25 - And as he reasoned of righteousness, temperance, and judgment to come, Felix trembled, and answered, Go thy way for this time; when I have a convenient season, I will call for thee.

Acts 26:28 – Agrippa answered Paul and stated, "…Almost thou persuadest me to be a Christian."

Romans 14:10 - But why dost thou judge thy brother? or why dost thou set at nought thy brother? for we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ.

II Cor. 5:10 - For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.

I Peter 4:17 - For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?

II Peter 2:9 - The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished:

(2 Th 1:5) Which is a manifest token of the righteous judgment of God, that ye may be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which ye also suffer:
