Numbers 2:1-34

The arrangement of the tribe, except Levi.

A.  Some details.

1.   All camp by their own ensign, each tribe has its own flag, or sign of some kind.  No one really knows what these ensigns were, or the design of them, or the method of displaying them.  Some say Judah was a lion, Reuben a man, Joseph an ox and Dan an eagle, making them conform to the image of the four living creatures in Revelation and Ezekiel.  But no one knows for sure.

2.      Pitch far off - Actually means "over against", facing the tabernacle on every side.  This shows that the men of war were looking to God to deliver them from their enemies, not their own strength.
