Psalms 92

It is good to give thanks to God. We may not think about it very often, or perhaps even never, but it is a good thing to do. We might often think why bad things have to happen to us, but have you every stopped to thank God for the good things he does for you? Perhaps, however, it is easier to complain than to give thanks.

Often our prayers are full of "give me, Lord," "I need this, Lord." Why not come to God and surprise him by thanking him for some of the things he has given to you.

Make a list of reasons to praise God.

  1. Salvation given to a unworthy, condemned sinner, who should go to the fires of an eternal hell. Involves the opening of our eyes to our wickedness sinfulness and the grace and mercy of God in redeeming our unworthy souls from a devil’s hell and giving us eternal heaven.
  2. Our church, where we worship and pray.
  3. Our family and the enjoyment of being together.
  4. Life, and health (whatever health we have).
  5. Our jobs and the provision God has given to us.

Verse 1.

  1. It is good ethically, for it is the Lord’s right.
  2. It is good emotionally, for it is pleasant. Sin is a dragging down of everything around us. Sin is discouragement, and bewilderment. Sin is eventual death and destruction, James 1:13-15. Sin promises us so much, yet delivers not good, but evil, discouragement, and death when it is finished. Lust, Sin, and death – James 1:15 – "Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death." The end of God is eternal life and eternal bliss and happiness.
  3. It is good practically, or it leads others to see and thank God for His precious watch care. We may never be able to recognize the good things God has done for us, if others don’t tell us.
  4. It is good to thank God because it is a small thing to do because of all the large and small blessings he gives daily. We breathe his air, we eat his food, we live on his earth, that he created for us.
  5. It is good to sing praises to God. Don’t be silent, even though silent worship is good, vocal worship and vocal thanks is better.
    1. God has given to humans the special capacity to sing, and we should sing praises to his Holy and precious name.
    2. Many people sing praises to various products they have used, and enjoyed. (advertisement)
    3. Many people sing praises to the person they love. (love songs)
    4. Many people sing praises to their favorite car they drive. (advertisement)
    5. Don’t you think we ought to sing praises to God who gives us material life, and especially spiritual life?
    6. Verse 2 and 3:

      1. It is good to sing praises to God in the morning.
      2. It is good to sing praises to God in the evening.
      3. It is good to give praises to God with all sorts of instruments.

Verse 4 and 5:

  1. The work of the Lord is what makes us glad. We are not glad because of our works.
  2. Our triumph is in the works of God’s hands, not in the works of our hands.
  3. God’s works are greater than we can ever declare.
  4. Make a list of the works of God, compared to the works of men, and you will discover that God’s works are so great they cannot be compared to the works of men.

Verse 6-8:

  1. Verse 6 – The brutish man (the man without knowledge or understanding of the works of God) and the fool (the man who declares there is no God) doesn’t understand. There are many of these people, but they will be destroyed forever.
  2. Verse 7 – God will endure when all those that declare "God is dead," is dead and gone. What a lesson for me! Often, I will strike out at those who are against me, declaring in my self-righteousness, "You can’t do that to me!", as if I am somebody!
  3. Verse 8 – God is our rock and salvation, we will trust in none other.
  4. Verse 9 – God will destroy and scatter all unbelievers and those that scoff at God. Satan is the prince and power of the air – NOW – but there is coming a day when he will be cast into the Lake of Fire, which burns with the wrath of God forever.

Verse 10-15: There are many good things God will do for believers (not just those who say they are believers, but those who are true believers indeed) as outlined in these verses.

  1. Verse 10 – God’s children and that includes me (does it include you) will be exalted to a place of glory and prominence. This verse states believers have a horn (a rule or authority) which is given to them by God.
  2. Verse 11 – The day is coming when all believers will see the destruction of the wicked, and all those that rebelled against God.
  3. Verse 12 – The righteous shall continue to enjoy the blessings of God, even flourishing more and more, until they fill the new earth.
  4. Verse 13 – There is coming a day when true believers shall be in the courts of God.
  5. being planted as in Psalms 1:3. The house of the lord is the place of worship (the church in this age), therefore they shall flourish in the courts of the Lord.
  6. Verse 14 – True believers will give glory to God all their lives, and in old age shall not be bitter because they are growing old, or grieving over the things they missed in their youth. They will worship and serve God because of his abundant blessings.
    1. Matthew 13:22 reveals some believers who will be entangled with this world and lose all their rewards.
    2. Proverbs 22:6 gives a promise to parents that their children will not "sow their wild oats" and will continue to be faithful to God all the days of their lives.
  7. Verse 15 – True believers will continue to show (be a witness) that God is right, that he is the one that has blessed them all the days of their lives.
