John 12:21

I. These are Greeks, who come to Jerusalem to worship God.

A. Because they were Greeks, they were not allowed to worship as the Jews worshipped.

B. They asked for Christ, because they knew they would be accepted of him.

1. Matthew 15:21-28 – Jesus healed the daughter of the Syrophoenician woman, even though she was not a Jew.

2. Ephesians 2:11-15 – Christ has broken down the middle wall of partition between the Jews and Gentiles, and between every person and God.

II. They did not seek religion, but Christ.

A. Many seek a form of worship, without seeking Christ.

1. I Timothy 4:8 affirms, For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.

2. II Timothy 3:5 states, Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.

3. Colossians 2:23 reveals, Which things have indeed a shew of wisdom in will worship, and humility, and neglecting of the body; not in any honour to the satisfying of the flesh.

B. They sought help from a disciple of Christ.

1. People today need to see Jesus, but they often come to us, so we can show them the way.

2. Phillip told Andrew and both of them went to Christ.

3. There is no need of any one of us trying to get all the glory.

III. Because of the closeness to the end of time, it is necessary that people come to Christ now.

A. The people in Christ’s day did not understand what was ahead of Christ, or them.

1. We don’t know what is ahead of us either, therefore it is more necessary that we all seek Jesus, not a form of religion, or will worship, or bodily exercise.

2. We should always seek Christ first and let him take care of us, however that is.

B. A lot of people seek games and gimmicks, and feel good sermons.

1. II Timothy 4:3 confirms, For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;

2. People will die and go to hell for all eternity while they pay preachers to tickle their ears with lies and feel good stories.
