John 1:1-14

  1. We have all heard enough about Jesus Christ to know who He is. But we really don’t know who He is.
  1. Our text states that Jesus is the Word, the creator, and the Saviour.
  2. He is God in the flesh.
  1. Gen. 1:1 - The Bible states that God created the heaven and the earth.
  1. There is no contradiction between John 1 and Gen. 1 because Jesus is God.
  2. Jesus said, "I and my father are one." John 10:30.
  3. John 8:18 states, I am one that bear witness of myself, and the Father that sent me beareth witness of me.
  4. The Pharisees often rebuked Christ because Jesus declared that He and his father were one, thus making himself equal to God.
  5. Jesus Christ is the eternal creator of this entire universe and everything in it, and He came into the world to seek and save that which was lost.
  6. God spoke this entire creation into existence!
  7. Remember the time in the Garden when the soldiers came to get Christ and Peter cut off the servants ear. Christ put the ear back on, and told Peter that all he had to do was ask His father and He would send legions of angels to destroy those that are after Him.
  1. Gen. 1:31 - God made a perfect world, but Satan sinned in heaven and was cast out into the world.
  1. There he lied to the woman and she deceived Adam into eating the forbidden fruit.
  2. We would think God would destroy the world and everything in it because man has now polluted His perfect creation, but He didn’t.
  3. God promised that He would come into the world and take care of the sin caused by Adam.
  4. Nobody else can take care of sin.
  5. God came looking for Adam even though He knew Adam had brought sin, sickness and death to all the world.
  1. Phil. 2:5-9 - Jesus came into the world, leaving the eternal heavens and taking upon himself the form of a sinful man, yet without any sin. This passage shows us the mind of God.
  1. Notice the great transformation that took place when Christ left heaven and came to the earth.
  2. No reputation - Kings didn’t herald his arrival, but kings wanted him dead.
  3. He wasn’t born in a righteous place, but in a very humble place.
  4. God took upon Himself the form of the man (a servant) who had willingly disobeyed Him and cast the entire human race into eternal condemnation.
  5. It was man who brought all this sin, suffering and misery upon this earth.
  6. Man will pay for sin all the days of this life, but Christ will pay for all sin all eternity.
  1. Who is Jesus Christ?
  1. He is the Son of God, whose body developed in the womb of Mary.
  2. Jesus is the everlasting creator, who was with God in all eternity, yet He left it all and was born into this sinful world.
  3. Jesus died a death. He didn’t deserve to die at all because he didn’t have any sin.
  4. Jesus didn’t die just any death, but he died a special death - the death of a sinner, which is revealed by crucifixion.
  5. Why did Jesus do all this?
  6. John 3:16 - For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
