I. There is a line of blood from Genesis to Revelation.
A. Genesis 3:15 - Prophecy of blood to be shed by Christ.
1. Genesis 3:21 - Coats of skins necessitated the shedding of blood of
an innocent animal.
2. Exodus 12:3 - The Passover Lamb - innocent for sin.
3. Exodus 34:19,20 - An innocent lamb substituted for the
donkey.
4. The law required an innocent (best) animal to shed its
blood for the sins of the people.
B. Num. 21:4-9 - The brazen Serpent is a symbol of Jesus Christ, who will
save.
C. Lev. 16:15-20,21 - Lay hands on head of scapegoat.
1. Three animals were chosen.
a. A bullock for the sin offering of Aaron,
b. Two goats – one as a sacrifice, and the other as a scapegoat.
D. All these animals sacrifices are insufficient to cleanse from sin.
1. Hebrews 10:3 – There is a remembrance of sins each year.
2. Hebrews 10:4 – It is not possible for the blood of bulls and goats
to take away sin.
3. Hebrews 10:6 – God is not satisfied with burnt offerings and
sacrifice.
4. Hebrews 10:10 – It is through the body of Jesus Christ that our
sins are washed away.
5. Hebrews 10:11-14 – The High Priest stood and offered many
sacrifices, but Christ offered one sacrifice, then sat down because the
work was finished.
II. Christ offered himself one time and we are cleansed.
A. Rom. 5:9 - Justified by His blood (He was innocent).
B. John 1:29 – John the Baptist said, Behold, the lamb of God, which
taketh away the sin of the world.
1. Isaiah 7:14 - Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign;
Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name
Immanuel.
a. Immanuel means "God with us".
b. The sacrifice provided by God is himself, in the form of Jesus
Christ.
C. The account of the birth of Christ.
1. Matthew 1:
a. Verse 18 - Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When
as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together,
she was found with child of the Holy Ghost.
b. Verse 25 - And knew her not till she had brought forth her
firstborn son: and he called his name JESUS.
2. Luke 1:34,35 (virgin, verse 27)
a. The word "crucify" - the crown of thorns - the many
beatings.
b. John 19:34 - Blood and water from His side.
D. Heb. 9:12-14 - Christ took His own blood into the Holy Place in
heaven.
E. Rev. 5:1-7 - The innocent Lamb slain could open the book
and pronounce judgment upon the earth.
