they obeyed not the voice of the LORD: thus came they even to Tahpanhes.
I. God watches over and judges the affairs of men.
A. Psalm 50:3 God is a silent God, but that does not mean he is an
unknowing God.

what we individually do.
C. Scriptures that teach God watches over everything.

is in heaven: his eyes behold, his eyelids try, the children of men.

beholding the evil and the good.

II. Jeremiah 44 God allows men to make decisions that will destroy
them.
A. Jeremiah 38:17 Zedekiah was told by Jeremiah if he surrendered to

verses 6-9.
B. Jeremiah 41:17 The remnant of the Jews made up their minds to flee
to Egypt, seeking safety, but decided to pretend to be interested in Gods
will first.
1. Jeremiah 42:5-6 The people came to Jeremiah and told him they

the Lord.
5. Jeremiah 44:11-14 A recapitulation of Gods judgment against
these Jews is that they will die in Egypt because of their rebellion.
6. Jeremiah 44:15-19 The Jews believed their bad fortune came when
they refused to worship the queen of heaven, not from God.
7. Jeremiah 44:20-28 Jeremiah told them God was long-suffering toward
them, and allowed them to sin in his sight, but they did not believe him.
III. Conclusion: we need God to open our understanding, because if he does
not, we will not have understanding.
A. Luke 24:45 - Then opened he their understanding, that they might
understand the scriptures,
B. Note: these disciples could not understand the scriptures before
Christ gave them this power, even though they were saved, scripturally
baptized and had faithfully followed Christ for three years.
