Eccl. 11:9-12:7
I. Look at the overall picture of your life - the way God looks at it.
A. Do not be so enamored with youth, you will not have it very long.
B. Luke 12:13-21 (verse 15) - A man's life consisteth not of the
abundance of the things he possesses.
C. Men.
1. Proverbs 20:29 - The glory of young and old men.
2. Young men - learn in your youth how Satan works, and how to serve
God.
3. Hosea 7:8,9 - Ephraim is old and still doesn't understand how pagans
have robbed his glory.
D. Women.
1. Examples of pretty women.
a. Sarah - Genesis 12:11 - …Thou art fair to look upon…
(and she was about 60 years old!)
b. Rebekah - Gen. 24:16 - And the damsel was very fair to look
upon, a virgin, neither had any man known her: and she went down to the
well, and filled her pitcher, and came up.
c. Rachel - Gen. 29:16,17 - comparing Leah and Rachel. And Laban
had two daughters: the name of the elder was Leah, and the name of the
younger was Rachel. 17 Leah was tender eyed; but Rachel was beautiful
and well favoured.
d. Bathsheba - II Sam. 11:2 - very beautiful. And it came to pass
in an eveningtide, that David arose from off his bed, and walked upon
the roof of the king’s house: and from the roof he saw a woman washing
herself; and the woman was very beautiful to look upon.
E. II Cor. 11:14 - Satan is transformed into an angel of light.
a. II Cor. 11:14 - An angel of light.
II. Vanity of physical beauty.
1. Psalm 39:11 - Leaves at rebuke. When thou with rebukes dost
correct man for iniquity, thou makest his beauty to consume away like a
moth: surely every man is vanity.
2. Psalm 49:14 - Leaves in grave. Like sheep they are laid in the
grave; death shall feed on them; and the upright shall have dominion over
them in the morning; and their beauty shall consume in the grave from
their dwelling.
3. Proverbs 31:30 - beauty is vain. Favour is deceitful, and beauty
is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised.
4. Proverbs 6:25 - lust not after the evil, beautiful woman. Lust
not after her beauty in thine heart; neither let her take thee with her
eyelids.
III. Beauty shall perish.
1. Nature.
a. II Peter 3:10 - elements shall be burned completely up.
b. Revelation 6:12,13 - a description of the destruction of the moon
and stars.
2. Boys and men.
a. Ecclesiastes 11:9,10 - Rejoice in your youth because it will soon
be leaving.
b. Ecclesiastes 12:1-8 - Old age brings all kinds of aches and pains.
3. Girls and women.
a. Proverbs 11:22 - A pretty woman without discretion is like a jewel
in a hogs nose. (Very "out of place", like a diamond in a
goats belly!)
b. Go through the list of women above to see if they are discreet or
not.
4. Sarah went into Pharaoh's harem. (God used her anyway.)
5. Rebekah lied to her husband about Jacob and the birthright. (God
used her actions anyway!)
6. Rachel worshipped false gods. Jacob was buried with Leah.
7. Bathsheba willingly went into David's chamber and committed adultery
with him. (God allowed Solomon to be born from her and David.)
8. Satan.
a. Revelation 20:10 - Cast into the Lake of fire.
b. All his glory is gone - Isaiah 14:16-20.
c. Matthew 23:27-30 - His religion is full of dead men's bones.
IV. Real Beauty - Spiritual beauty.

most beautiful of all. …he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we
shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him.
2. Psalm 149:4 - Salvation beautifies. For the LORD taketh pleasure
in his people: he will beautify the meek with salvation.
3. I John 3:2 - We shall be like Him. Beloved, now are we the sons
of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that,
when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.
4. I Peter 3:3,4 - The real beauty of women. Whose adorning let it
not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold,
or of putting on of apparel; 4 But let it be the hidden man of the heart,
in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet
spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.
5. Rom. 10:15 - Beautiful feet. And how shall they preach, except
they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that
preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!
V. Eccl. 12:3, In the day when the keepers of the house shall tremble,
and the strong men shall bow themselves, and the grinders cease because they
are few, and those that look out of the windows be darkened,
A. Keepers are arms
B. Strong men are legs
C. Grinders are teeth
