This message is a comparison between waiting on Pentecost and waiting on the
rapture.
II Peter 3:9 - The Lord is not slack concerning His promise.
We have a promise of the return of the Lord and the destruction of this
world by fire.
The Lord’s promise is "us-ward", which is all the elect of
God.
Matthew 13:38 - God has some children (wheat), and Satan has some
children (tares).
When all the elect become believers, Christ is coming back for all his
own.
The reason this world continues today is at least two fold:
a. The iniquity of this world is not yet full.
b. There are yet some of God’s children that are not saved, perhaps
even not born yet.
Acts 1:4 - Waiting on the Promise of the Father
1. They believed God would keep His promise. They were not told how long to
wait, but to wait.
2. They obeyed - Acts 1:4 - Verse 12 and 13.
3. They prayed - Acts 1:14
4. They made supplication - Acts 1:14 They earnestly desired and prayed
that Jesus would fulfill the promise He made to them.
5. They made a count - Acts 1:15, but they were not particular about the
count – (the number of the names together was about…)
Counting church membership or attendance is not necessarily scriptural,
because sometimes there is more emphasis upon the number than true worship.
6. They studied the Word of God - Chose another apostle. Luke 10:41,42 -
Mary has chosen the best part.
7. They waited and watched, preparing for the next step.
I Thessalonians 1:10 - Waiting on the Rapture.
1. We ought to be believing Jesus will come - Acts 1:11.
2. We ought to be obeying all His commands.
3. We ought to be praying.
4. Supplication for Jesus to return.
II Peter 3:12 - Looking for and hastening for His return. We are not
looking for or hastening for the destruction of this world, or the casting
into hell of unbelievers, but we desire to see the Day of God.
II Peter 3:13 – We are looking, according to the promise of God, for a
new heaven and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.
b. I Thess. 4:18 - Comfort one another with these words.
Count - Heb. 10:25 - We ought to assemble ourselves together, and even more
so as we see the day approaching.
II Tim. 2:15 - We ought to study to show ourselves
approved unto God. (It is not wrong for people to see our good works and
glorify God, Matthew 5:16.) Don’t ever think you have learned enough,
because we have not even scratched the surface of the Word of God, or of true
spiritual worship.
We ought to be waiting and watching, making preparation for the next step.
Our actions show whether we are watching and waiting or not. We have never
been to the next step, so we do not know exactly what that step will involve.
Are you fully submitting to God now? Are you willing to submit to God tomorrow
and the rest of your life? If you are not willing to submit to God now, you
cannot be ready to submit yourself to God tomorrow or in eternity.
