We must believe in the absolute sovereignty and authority of God, plus, he can and will take care of me

Isaiah 55:8 – "For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD."

It is reflected to us in the way Jesus Christ thinks.

Matthew 6:1 – When we do alms (giving and helping those that need help) do not let others know you are helping them. Some folks compare this passage with Mark 12:41-44 where Christ sat and watched as people gave offerings. The giving of alms and the giving of offerings are different.

Matthew 6:42 – Loan freely, not being concerned about whether we are paid back, or even whether what we loan is returned to us in good condition.

Matthew 6:19 – lay not up treasures for yourself. Verse 34 – Don’t worry about retirement – that will take care of itself, if we take care of God’s business today.

Phil. 2:5 states that Jesus left all for us, so we should leave all for him.

Mark 8:34-38 – What will we give in exchange for our soul?

II Cor. 12:7-11 – Paul discovered strength in weakness – When I am weak, then am I strong.

Matthew 27:54 – There were women who ministered daily to Christ, taking care of his physical needs – like washing his clothes, so forth. (Will God put a burden on folks to take care of us when we are called into the service of God? Will God provide?)

Proverbs 27:23,24 – "Be thou diligent to know the state of thy flocks, and look well to thy herds. 24 For riches are not for ever: and doth the crown endure to every generation?"

Proverbs 23:4,5 – "Labour not to be rich: cease from thine own wisdom. 5 Wilt thou set thine eyes upon that which is not? for riches certainly make themselves wings; they fly away as an eagle toward heaven."

Reconciliation of sovereignty of God and human responsibility

II Samuel 15:31 – David prayed that God would turn the counsel of Ahithophel into foolishness.

Verse 34 gives the means God will use.

17:5 – Absalom calls Hushai for counsel.

17:14 – God was in Absalom calling Hushai, and in Hushai giving better counsel than Ahithophel.

I Samuel 23:10-13 – When David understood from God that the men of Keilah would deliver him up to Saul, he and his men left.

Our strength and hope and encouragement is in doing the will of God

John 4:34 – Jesus said his meat was to do the will of him that sent him.

John 6:38-40 – Jesus repeated the above phrase when pointing people to God, not himself.
