II Peter

II Peter is a very interesting book. In chapter one, Peter instructs those that have obtained like precious faith in practical, everyday living, encouraging believers to continually trust the promises of God so they can grow in Christ. He also relates that saved people can forget their salvation if they do not add to their faith on a daily basis. Peter speaks of his soon coming death, and his desire for his readers to continue in the faith. Chapter one brings us to the pinnacle of heavenly worship, but chapter two brings us swiftly back to earth, as Peters warns about false teachers. In this chapter, Peter is not determining whether a person is saved or lost. Peter is not talking about salvation, but about false teachers. There are false teachers who are saved, and there are false teachers who are lost. God expects us to be able to determine who false teachers are, and not follow their wicked and dangerous ways. II Peter chapter two is a companion to the book of Jude. As if our minds had not already been stirred, Peter declares in chapter three that he intends to stir our minds by way of remembrance. It is good remember what God has done in the past. It is good to know we are living in the last days, and it is good to remember how God always delivers his people from this present evil world. God delivered Noah, and God will deliver us. All we have to do is wait, be faithful while we are waiting and continue in obedience. We are looking for a new heaven and a new earth - the new city Abraham was looking for. God will deliver us, let us lift up our eyes on high. Jesus is coming back!! We will leave this sin cursed earth and enter the glorious portals of heaven. This earth and all the universe will soon be destroyed by the fire of God (not an atomic blast). We are encouraged to remain faithful to God, growing everyday in the grace and knowledge of God, using faith liberally because the days are evil. Use any and all of these outlines as God directs.
