The Importance of Correcting Social Evils

Luke 9:23-26

II Cor. 4:16-18 - Note the difference between temporal (temporary or earthly) things and eternal things.

Verse 23, And he said to [them] all, If any [man] will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.

People are desiring more civil rights.

People are upset that their individual rights are violated.  Some people are taking classes in assertiveness, so they will be more able to assert themselves upon others.

Women are declaring that they aren't given enough opportunities for advancement.  That they are discriminated against because they are women.

Minorities loudly proclaim that they aren't given enough opportunities for advancement.  They say they are turned down for job opportunities because of the color of their skin or their national origin.

Now the white, male American is raising up and declaring that they are becoming a minority and need protection because their civil rights are violated.

Verse 24 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it.

People are trying to get congress to pass a tougher crime bill because our streets are so dangerous.  Drive by shootings, which used to be related to mob "justice", unheard of just two or three years ago, are at least a monthly occurrence.  The latest is a drive by bike shooting!

People want a better educational system because the kids in public schools simply aren't learning as much as they ought to learn.  Some are graduating without knowing the basis of reading, writing and arithmetic.  Outcome Based Education (OBE) is the newest scam the NEA (National Education Association) is putting on the American people.  This viewpoint is that being "political correct" is more important than learning reading, writing, Arithmetic.  OBE emphasis is upon accepting any value except the traditional Judeo-Christian America was founded on.

We are told that people want a national health care system which will take care of the health needs of every person that lives in the United States.  People are still going to die, regardless of what "health plan" a person has.

What will happen if and when all these demands are met?  Will people be satisfied?  Will they then seek after the things of God?

The fact is that even after all these "injustices" are met, every person will have to stand before God and give account of themselves.

Verse 25 For what is a man advantaged, if he gain the whole world, and lose himself, or be cast away?

People are striving to "get ahead" in this world.  Many seek to gain better positions at work, more money from they work, a better car, a better house.  They spend their lives and go down instantly to the grave.

II Peter 3:11 - This world is going to be burned up along with all unbelievers.

Verse 26 For whosoever shall be ashamed of me and of my words, of him shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he shall come in his own glory, and [in his] Father's, and of the holy angels.

Please notice how Satan has deceived people into filling the years of their lives, filling the thoughts of their minds, and the activities of their bodies with correcting social injustices, and leaving the most important part of their lives untouched: the reconciling of themselves to God in Salvation, and daily worship.

The basic problem of humanity is being disregarded by the majority of "problem solving experts".

Original sin in the Garden of Eden.

Daily sin in our lives.

Only Jesus can forgive original sin.

Only Jesus can give daily peace.
