a. Verse 10, "...There is none righteous, no, not one:" This is
speaking about the total makeup of the lost person, which is completely
against everything God is for.
b. Verse 11, "There is none that understandeth..." The lost
persons mind is completely against spiritual things, for he can only
understand material things.
c. Verse 11, "...there is none that seeketh after God." Man's
will is such that they do not seek to please God, or even to seek Him in the
vaguest sense. Instead, they run to and fro seeking to fulfill their own
pleasure, trying to get away from the very face of God. Most of the time,
lost people do not even want the messenger of God to speak to them, for
their hearts seek after the darkness of this world instead of the light of
Jesus Christ.
d. Verse 12, "They are all gone out of the way..." The Bible
doesn't say some have gone out of the way, but all have gone out of the way.
They are traveling down the broad way that leads to destruction, not down
the narrow way that leads to life everlasting.
e. Verse 13, "Their throat is an open sepulchre;..." The throat
is the doorway to the inside of the body, and God says the throat is an open
grave. Inside the body, where the heart of man is, there is only death, and
the stink produced by the decaying life.
f. Verse 13, "...with their tongues they have used deceit; the
poison of asps is under their lips." Most "Christians" today
want to believe that lost people are not quite as bad as God makes them out
to be. But this thinking doesn't change God or the condition of the lost
sinner. The Bible says that what comes out of the mouth is what is in the
heart, therefore what is in the heart of the sinner is deceitfulness and a
very strong poison, which will kill others.
g. Verse 14, "Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness:"
Again, some "Christians" want to believe that God will accept the
person of the sinner because they are moral people, or because of their
"good deeds". But God sees only cursing and bitterness coming from
the lips of the lost sinner.
h. Verse 15, "Their feet are swift to shed blood:" Religious
Jews were responsible for the crucifixion of Christ (although He died for
all our sins). A sheep follows the Shepherd everywhere, while a goat rebels
and strikes out against the sheep and the Shepherd.
i. Verse 16, "Destruction and misery are in their ways:" All we
have to do is look to understand this verse. Since Adam disobeyed in the
Garden of Eden, mankind has been cast into sin and death. There have been
literally millions of people killed because of wars and the diseases caused
by wars and sin. All around us is the evidence of the way of sinners.
j. Verse 17, "And the way of peace have they not known:"
Sinners have sought for that elusive peace. They have tried to bring about
national peace, and world peace, but all these have failed, and will
continue to fail. Jesus is the only real peace this world has ever known,
and the majority of mankind has rejected Him. He gives inner peace, the
world is seeking outer peace.
k. Verse 18, "There is no fear of God before their eyes." Until
the Holy Spirit of God uses the spoken Word of God on the heart of the lost
sinner, he will continue living with no fear of God, or the coming judgment.
He has no comprehension of hell, or spending an eternity in hell.
